Every message is encrypted on your device using X25519 key exchange and AES-256-GCM before it ever leaves. Only the intended recipient can decrypt it.

Your private encryption keys are generated locally and stored encrypted in your device's secure keychain (iOS Keychain, macOS Keychain). They are never transmitted to the server.
Each message uses an X25519 Diffie-Hellman key exchange and HKDF-SHA256 key derivation to produce a unique AES-256-GCM encryption key. The same algorithm used by Signal and WhatsApp.
Your keys are stored encrypted using Argon2id key derivation — the most secure password-based key derivation function available. Your password never leaves your device.
